2 Hours - Walk may be extended if desired.
Great relaxing walks where the emphasis is on fun and relaxation. We meet every morning at the same time and place for this walk beautiful scenery, mountains, lakes and woods, and two types of deer! Visit ancient places like the old copper mines (dating back 4000 years), 6th-century monastery ruins on Innisfallen Island or the 15th Century Ross Castle. See where Brother Cudda slept for 200 years, where Queen Victoria visited in 1861 and where President De Gaulle of France stayed in 1969. Also, in the same year, where part of the award winning Ryan’s Daughter (starring Robert Mitchum) was filmed. See our native red deer or the Japanese Sika introduced here in the mid 19th Century. Unusual trees here are the Arbutus (Strawberry Tree) fuscia and Monte Rey Pines. You might see the rare Kerry cow on your walk (brought to Ireland by the Celts). In season, you will also see abundant local flora including wild mint, garlic and myrtle.
The Meeting Point for the 2 hour walk, 11am, every day of the year, is outside O'Sheas Funeral Home at the end of New Street, (opposite St. Mary's Cathedral); 300m from town centre. GPS: V93 KX 61
